Church of God Virginia, also known as COGVA, is the Virginia State Assembly of the Church of God movement with general offices in Anderson, Indiana. We exist to connect, encourage, and strengthen Church of God congregations, pastors, and leaders across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Our movement is centered on one clear confession: Jesus is Lord. The Church of God describes this as non-negotiable: Jesus is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” “Lord of lords,” and the One who defines who we are.
What We Believe
Jesus Is the Subject
Everything begins and ends with Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, Savior, Lord, and Head of the church. Our message, mission, worship, and service are centered on Him.
Holiness
We believe the Holy Spirit transforms, equips, empowers, and sanctifies believers for holy living and faithful service. Holiness is not simply what we avoid; it is a life fully surrendered to God.
Unity
The Church of God has long emphasized Christian unity. We believe the body of Christ is called to live, worship, and serve together across barriers that often divide people.
The Supremacy of Scripture
We are people of the Bible. Scripture is our guide for faith, conduct, teaching, and practice. It shapes what we believe and how we live.
The Great Commandments
Jesus taught us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This love shapes our churches, ministries, and witness throughout Virginia.
Our Work in Virginia
COGVA serves as a network of Virginia Church of God congregations and leaders. We support ministry through connection, encouragement, credentialing, leadership development, youth ministry, camps, events, and partnership among local churches.
Our desire is to see every Church of God congregation in Virginia strengthened for the mission of Jesus Christ.
Together, we are pursuing Jesus, practicing holiness, walking in unity, and serving Virginia with the hope of the gospel.
